AWARD

• The winning playwright will receive a prize of $300.
• There will be a limited run of the play in January, 2008
• Our experience from past playwriting contests has revealed it is advantageous for the winning playwright to be present for at least one performance of his/her work. Therefore, in addition to the $300. prize, Oglebay Institute will reimburse a portion of the author's travel expenses if he/she chooses to attend the production.

RULES FOR SUBMISSION

• All full-length non-musical plays that have never been professionally produced or published are eligible.
• Play entry deadline is January 1, 2008 . No script postmarked after that date will be considered.
• Contestants may submit more than one play for consideration.
• Plays in which two or more authors have collaborated are acceptable; however, the prize money remains the same.
• All plays must be controlled exclusively by the playwright. The playwright will retain all rights to the winning play.
• Oglebay Institute, in collaboration with the author, reserves the right to determine the final staging of the play.
• All matters pertaining to production and promotion will be the responsibility of Oglebay Institute.
• Authors should take into consideration the following limitations of Towngate theatre when planning special effects that are absolutely necessary to the production:
  
  • Theatre seating capacity: 166
  • Stage dimensions: 27-1/2' proscenium, 20' depth
  • No grid or fly space
  • Lighting is adequate for all but the most elaborate plots demanding special effects

ADJUDICATION

• All contestants will be notified of the winning play no later than May 1, 2008 .
• Oglebay Institute reserves the right to withhold the award if, in the opinion of the judges, no entry merits it.
• Applicants' plays will be returned only if accompanied by a self-addressed mailer with sufficient postage.
