TAKE A TRIP DOWN MEMBER LANE WITH MUSICAL PERFORMANCES AT OGLEBAY INSTITUTE

WHEELING, W.Va. (March 21, 2008)—Music lovers can take a satisfying journey down memory lane through songs they know and love. Oglebay Institute presents two April concerts that are sure to entertain a mature and sophisticated listening audience.

“Wine, Women and Song,” featuring “The Local Girls,” a precision, three-part harmony, takes place at 8 p.m April 5 at the elegant Stifel Fine Arts Center. The “De’ ja ‘vu Band” performs at 8 p.m. April 12 at Towngate Theatre as part of the Towngate Unplugged series.

“The Local Girls” popularity is anything but local. The Athens, Ohio-based trio’s three-part harmony and engaging delivery have won fans across the Midwest and even the White House. They perform the hot and vampy swing tunes of the 30s and 40s as well as their own arrangements of cowpoke, be-bop, blues, standards and an occasional psychedelic hit. They have opened for “The Platters,” Leroy Parnell, “Lonestar,” Chubby Checker, accompanied David Bromberg, performed at the White House, provided music for award-winning programs on NPR and PBS and entertained the troops surrounding Air Force One.

The “De’ ja ‘vu Band” takes listeners on a retrospective journey to an era of poodle skirts, jukeboxes and the’57 Chevy. With more than two centuries of combined musical experience, this group of veteran musicians performs classic sounds of the 50s, 60s and 70s, featuring rock solid instrumentation and four part vocal harmonies. With their varied selection of classic oldies, the band seeks to emulate the sound and style of the original artists, which keeps crowds singing and dancing down memory lane.

“Both of these concerts provide truly entertaining evenings, evoking not simply nostalgia, but the timeless pleasure of fine music,” Oglebay Institute director of performing arts Kate Crosbie said.
