OI SCHOOL OF DANCE PRESENTS “THAT’S ENTERTAINMENT”

WHEELING, W.Va. (May 19, 2009)- - Oglebay Institute’s School of Dance presents “That’s Entertainment” at 6 p.m. Saturday, June 6 at the Bridgeport High School auditorium.

Featuring ballet, jazz, tap, lyrical/modern dancers of all ages, this annual student dance production presents numbers choreographed around a variety of classic and modern day music, cinema and Broadway productions. Doors open at 5 p.m.

Individual numbers include: Lullabye of Broadway from 42nd Street, Habanera from Carmen, Let’s Go Fly a Kite from Mary Poppins, Seasons of Love from Rent, Witch Hunt from Wicked, Do Re Mi from The Sound of Music, Memory from Cats and many more.

Endowed by a generous gift from the Tomer Family, the dance concert is perfect family entertainment and gives talented students a chance to perform in public.

“Please come and enjoy the show. It promises to be a memorable night of dance,” remarked Oglebay Institute’s director of dance Cheryl Pompeo. “Our dancers have done amazing things this year, and this concert is a wonderful celebration of their talents and accomplishments.”

Pompeo said that during the 2008-09 school year, many of the dance students participated in “The Octave of Dance,” where eight international, national and regional teachers came to Oglebay Institute to teach. Eleven dancers were accepted into the West Virginia Dance Festival, which showcases “the best of the best” dancers in the state. Six dancers traveled to Jackson’s Mill to work with West Virginia artists, and the dance wellness class has conducted cancer and health awareness programs throughout the year.

Oglebay Institute’s School of Dance offers classes for children, adults and teens. Everything from belly dancing to clogging is offered throughout the year with the biggest enrollment time coming up soon in late summer. The School of Dance is located directly behind the Stifel Fine Arts Center, 1330 National Road, Wheeling.
