Oct. 11 Is Last Chance to Attend
Seven Sundays Lecture Series & Victorian Fashion Exhibit at Mansion

WHEELING, W.Va. (September 25, 2009) - - Oglebay Institute’s Mansion Museum concludes its yearlong look at historic fashion October 11.

The Museum’s Seven Sundays to Remember Lecture Series wraps up at 1 p.m. October 11 with “Petticoats, Pantaloons and Painters: Costumes in Art,” presented by Nancy Huth, curator of education, Taft Museum of Art, Cincinnati, Ohio. This is also the last day to view the Victorian fashion exhibit Dressing Wheeling From the Inside Out: 1840-1910.

Dress as rendered in paintings and sculpture can reveal much about the times and the individuals depicted. In this illustrated presentation, Huth will discuss the basic components of dress for women and men in the 19th and early 20th centuries, illustrated with the art of the eras, including highlights from the Taft Museum of Art and images of garments from museum collections.

Nancy Huth has joined the staff of the Taft Museum of Art in 2008. Previously, she worked as the manager of adult programs at the Walters Art Museum in Baltimore. While at the Walters she developed and presented lectures, workshops, courses and concerts for adult audiences. A number of projects she has worked on focus on her expertise in and passion for the history of costume.

She worked at the Ball State University Art Museum, in Muncie, Indiana for a number of years as the assistant director and curator of education. Huth, a native of Ohio, has a master’s degree in art history from Oberlin College, where she presented tours and workshops for both youths and adults at the Allen Memorial Art Museum in Oberlin. She also worked in the department of education and art history at the Cleveland Museum of Art.

The admission fee is $10 per person, which includes admission to both the Mansion and Glass Museums. All guests are invited to continue on and browse through either or both of the museums after the lecture. Members of Oglebay Institute receive a discount.
