OI staff members have been working hard to plan a summer camp season that will inspire the imagination in every child. Summer camp information is now available online. Click here for complete dates, times, prices and descriptions.

Day camps take place from June – August and are available in art, dance, nature and theatre for ages 3-13.

FIGURATIVELY SPEAKING OPENS AT STIFEL

Presented by the Independent Artists’ Group (IAG) of Wheeling, “Figuratively Speaking” opens Thursday, June 11 at Oglebay Institute’s Stifel Fine Arts Center with a free and festive public reception from 6:30- 8:30 p.m. The public is invited to view the works, meet the artists and enjoy refreshments and entertainment, provided by the Wheeling Park Jazz Combo.

Featuring soulful portraiture in charcoals, graphite, colored pencil, watercolor, oils and acrylics, the exhibition showcases the mystery and wonder of figure drawing, explores artists’ interpretation of the human form and captures moments in life touched by light and color, motions and gestures.

“Figuratively Speaking” can be seen free of charge from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday –Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays through August 14. Many of the works on display can be purchased.

CELEBRATE NATURE THIS SUMMER
AT THE SCHRADER CENTER


Nature walks, stargazing and evening campfires are just a few ways to enjoy the outdoors this summer at Oglebay Institute’s Schrader Environmental Education Center.

Located in Oglebay Park, the Schrader Center offers nature programming all summer long that is educational, inexpensive and fun for the whole family.

Programs are offered Memorial Day through Labor Day and include Nature Walks Tuesday mornings at 10 a.m., Astronomy in the Park Wednesday evenings at 9 p.m., Campfires Thursday evenings at 8 p.m., Snake Shows Friday afternoons at 3:30 p.m. and Nature Exploration Backpacks, offered daily from10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

FASHION FLASHBACK - DRESSING WHEELING FROM THE INSIDE OUT: 1840-1910

Oglebay Institute presents “Dressing Wheeling From the Inside Out: 1840- 1910,” which chronicles women’s fashion during the Victorian era and illustrates how Wheeling fashion changed during a 70-year period.

On display at the Mansion Museum in Oglebay, the exhibit includes many of the finest dresses from the Museums’ collection, accessories such as hats, gloves, parasols, hand fans, purses and shoes along with undergarments such as hoops and corsets.

The exhibit is part of the Museum’s 2009 programming series “Passion for Fashion,” which includes the monthly Seven Sundays to Remember Lecture Series featuring fashion related topics presented by experts on historic fashion trends. All lectures being at 1 p.m. at the Mansion Museum. Admission is $10/$7 OI members. Reservations can be made by calling 304.242.7272.
