Dance Performances
Furthering its mission to teach dance not only as recreation but also as an art form, OI offers opportunities for dancers to perform publicly . The OI dance troupe performs three shows each season- a classical ballet in the fall, “The Nutcracker” during the holiday season and a spring concert that combines both classical and modern dance numbers.

Fall Classical Ballet

Each October, Oglebay Institute’s Youth Ballet Company stages a performance of a classical ballet at Towngate Theatre. Always colorful and enchanting, the performance delights audiences with the fantasy and beauty of dance.

From Sleeping Beauty to Cinderella and Peter Pan, these timeless classics are perfect entertainment for the whole family.

The Nutcracker

December 11-14th & December 26 at Towngate Theatre
December 7, 14 & 21 at the Mansion Museum

Attending a performance of the Nutcracker is like adding a star to the top of your tree. The yuletide season is not complete without this treasured holiday event.

Oglebay Institute’s Youth Ballet Company performs this enchanting ballet several times during December at the Mansion Museum in Oglebay and Towngate Theatre, 2118 Market Street in Wheeling.

Based on the book “The Nutcracker and the Mouse King,” written by E.T.A. Hoffman, the Nutcracker Ballet revolves around a young German girl named Clara. Clara falls asleep on Christmas Eve and is transported into a Christmas fantasy where a nutcracker turns into a prince, toys become soldiers and enchanted lands are filled with dancing fairies, snowflakes and flowers.

Oglebay Institute’s Nutcracker follows the traditional story line and includes all the favorite characters and dances. The charming young dancers are radiant and provide special moments for audience members of all ages to enjoy.

Spring Dance Concert

Highlighting the talents of Oglebay Institute dance students, the spring dance concert combines both classical and modern dance numbers and features ballet, jazz, tap, lyrical and modern dancers of all ages.

The annual student production presents music and dance numbers choreographed around a specific theme. Past concerts have included “A Night at the Movies” and “Colors of Dance.”

Endowed by a gift from the Tomer Family, the dance concert is perfect family entertainment, gives talented students a chance to perform in public and highlights graduating seniors.
