How the Oglebays Lived

This class is an introduction to popular American decorative styles: Federal (1790-1810); Empire (1810-1840); Victorian (1840-1900); and “Oglebay” (1901-1926). Social history, lifestyles, furniture and the decorative arts will be highlighted. Participants will have the rare opportunity to go into the Mansion’s period rooms. A perfect beginning to a romantic evening! Learn about the lives and loves of three generations of the Oglebay Family – secret engagements, tragedy, young love, second chances and more. Includes the rare opportunity to go into the Mansion’s period rooms. Attendance is limited to six couples who each receive champagne, chocolates, a single rose and a glass “kiss” made in The Studio at the Glass Museum. Mansion Museum - Holly McCluskey, presenter. Learn to make paperweights that contain colorful twists, swirls and flowers. Gather, re-heat and shape glass under the guidance of glassworkers Bob Allen & Taylor Kelly. No experience necessary. (LIMIT4)
