Preschool Days: Winter Series
Animal Armor Ages 2-4 with adult Fri., Feb. 17 $12/$9 OI members for 1 adult and 1 child $4 for each addt’l child

Magical beasts that use plate armor, swords, shields, chains and other tricky weapons will be explored as we take a look at how animals defend themselves. Educational activities and a craft complete this dynamic program.

Who is waking up after their long winter nap? Find out which animals hibernate and what they have to do to prepare for their winter naps. Store up some energy and then climb inside our cave to sleep.

Budding Naturalists: Winter Series
For Transitional Kindergarten Students

I ♥ Dinosaurs 4-6 Tues., Feb. 7 $12/$9 OI members for 1 child

Younger children should attend Pre School Days.

In the event of a cancellation, program will take place the following Tuesday.

1-2pm Find out about the dinosaurs of our region, participate in an archaeological dig. and build a T. Rex.
Winter Animal Habitats 4-6 Tues., Feb. 21 1-2pm Make a pair of binoculars and see if you can spot the many creatures that make trees their home. (OUTSIDE COMPONENT)
In Like a Lion…Out Like a Lamb? 4-6 Tues., Mar.6 1-2pm Explore why March can host some of the most dramatic weather of year. Look outside for the signs of spring and play a game of shadow tag. (OUTSIDE COMPONENT)

1-2pm Learn all of the tree’s life cycle stages from seed to rotten log. Gain an understanding of the important roles trees play in the forest and for humans. Find seeds and “taste” tree “food” on the trail.
I Spy That Little Guy 4-6 Tues., Mar. 27 1-2pm Get up close and personal with different species of “macro invertebrates” from our local stream. Use your eyes to “spy them” under a microscope.
For The Birds 4-6 Tues., Apr. 10 1-2pm Learn the names of common birds in your yard. Hike out with binoculars and see how many you can see. Find out how bird parents take care of their young and make a bird nest starter kit.
Color Me Camo 4-6 Tues., Apr. 24 1-2pm Can you see camouflaged animals hiding? Test your eyes and then test your camouflage skills in several outside learning activities.
Senses Hike 4-6 Tues., May 8 1-2pm Use your 5 senses on a short hike as you explore how animals use theirs. (Outdoor component to this class.)
Around the Pond 4-6 Tues., May 22 1-2pm A hunting we will go-armed with nets in search of life around the pond. Learn about metamorphosis as we try to capture tadpoles/frogs and dragonfly nymphs/dragonflies.
