Oglebay Astronomy Club
The Oglebay Astronomy Club is a partnership between Oglebay Institute’s Schrader Center and Oglebay Resort and Conference Center’s Benedum Planetarium to extend educational opportunities in astronomy by supporting a group of dedicated volunteer astronomers.
Mission Statement
• To promote the science of astronomy by fostering astronomical education, providing guidance and support for astronomical observation and study, and facilitating communication among local amateur astronomers.
Meetings
• The Oglebay Astronomy Club meets at the Schrader Center at 7:30 pm at Oglebay on the second Thursday of each month. Open to the public.
Public Viewing Sessions
• The Oglebay Astronomy Club conducts regular public viewing sessions at the Speidel Observatory in Oglebay, every Wednesday in June through August beginning at sunset. Public viewing sessions are also conducted at other locations and times. (see calendar of events)
Equipment
• Club members may check out equipment to use for teaching or learning. Donations of telescopes, binoculars, books, or educational materials are accepted to be used in public outreach programs.
Educational Programs
• Astronomy and space science presentations for your school or youth group that support state content standards are available.
