Objectives:
1. Demonstrate drawings with repetition of the human figure. 2. Recognize and describe the style of Edgar Degas. 3. Trace pattern of dancer to further skills of drawing the human figure.
Materials Provided:
• Patterns of dancers
• Oil Pastels
• 9X12 Pastel Paper
• Materials Needed:
• Pencils
Vocabulary:
1. Repetition: the use of the same visual element or visual effect a number of a number of times in the same composition.
Motivation:
1. Show and discuss examples of prints from Edgar Degas. 2. Demonstrate how to create the project before the students begin. 3. Display a finished example.
Instructions: 1. Pass out a 9x12 pastel paper and a pattern of the dancer to each student.
2. On the horizontal paper, trace the figure pattern several times across the paper. You can overlap the figures, making them look as if they are in front (place lower on the page) or behind (place further up on the page) one another.
3. Draw a face and details on the dancers.
4. Create a dance scene in the background of your paper and then use oil pastels using Degas style to add color to the whole drawing.
Evaluation:
1. Did the students repeat the human figure by tracing several times across the paper? 2. Did the students create a background scene for the dancers? 3. Did the students complete the projects?
