Quick Facts About OI Educational Programs

How can I get school programs for FREE?

Through grants, corporate sponsorships and individual donors, Oglebay Institute has funding available to help schools bring educational programs to their students. Please call us. We are happy to assist you in securing funding for your school.

Do OI school programs meet Content Standards & Objectives?
Oglebay Institute’s educational programs are designed to supplement classroom teaching to meet curriculum standards in science, social studies, visual art, language arts, drama, dance, physical education and wellness as well as 21st Century learning skills. On pages 18-26 of this booklet, you will find a listing of West Virginia and Ohio CSOs covered with each program.

Who are the instructors?
Whether it’s science, art, dance, theater, or history, Oglebay Institute educators are highly skilled in their disciplines. With more than 150 years of combined teaching experience, our instructors develop and present creative, hands-on programs that challenge and inspire students of all ages.

OI educators continually stay abreast of current trends and research in their respective fields, and their knowledge, training and enthusiasm for teaching ensure a great learning experience for students.

Are programs adjusted for grade/experience level?
Most OI educational programs are grade specific. Others, however, cover a wide range of age groups such as K-5. The content and skill level of these multi-age programs will be adjusted based on grade/experience level, ensuring an appropriate and challenging learning experience for your students.

Can OI develop a customized program to meet a specific need?
Absolutely. Our educators will work with you to design a program based on a specific topic or learning objective(s) as well as a multi-disciplinary curriculum. Professional development programs for teachers and service-learning projects are also available.

Are the programs really A+?
Feedback from educators is what drives Oglebay Institute’s program development. Consultation with teachers and school administrators and application of the latest content standards and objectives enable us to design and deliver quality programs that meet your education needs.

Where do programs take place?
Programs are available in-school or as a field trip to one of our Wheeling facilities- the Schrader Environmental Education Center, the Stifel Fine Arts Center, Towngate Theatre, the School of Dance and the Mansion and Glass Museums.
